Forth views

Some photos I took yesterday standing in a laybye overlooking the River Forth and the bridges. It was sunny when I drew up in the car, but the sun got shy and disappeared when I took out my camera.

The hills have a little snow on them, but mostly this far south, we missed the beginning of winter.

I don't know what the original tones of your photos are, but they come out in mellow browns and blues in my browser. I find this colouration particularly attractive; like autumn itself, it's quiet, gentle and somehow nostalgic. You can see the same in the cinema: compare the lovely blues and browns of the old Eastmancolor with the brashness of the reds in Technicolor.

The bridge as always great to see; a magnificent and inspiring structure.

I think I see five themes in your blog: veggie cooking, science and technology, radical feminism, nostalgia and an occasional leftish politics. These photos are of course related to the second and third theme.

I sort of see what you are meaning about the colours in the photos, although the autunmal hues are not so pronounced on my screen. But I did play about with the images (now that I've discovered Picasa, I'm going to use it!)

I can also see why you are identifying themes in the blog. It is neither deliberate, nor unsconscious, but as the strapline in the picture says, it is about me and reflects the concerns of a woman my age!

As for nostalgia, isn't there some quip about that never dating? Or some such thing.

Aw this pic took me back to growing up in the Ferry - not that I'd ever want to go back - in fact probably first time I've ever felt nostalgic about the place - must be getting old.

Thanks for your comment!

I haven't moved far from the area, but views of the Forth can make me feel nostalgic too.

In a way, it is a wonderful view with ever changing colours and activity on the river (well, oil tankers and navy ships).

When flying into Edinburgh, the London planes come up over the river and it definitely feels like being on the way home when I see that.
