I don't really want to live in interesting times

There is a Chinese* proverb, possibly even a curse, which is along the lines of 'may you live in interesting times'. Well, I could do without any more interest right now, at least on the political idiocy front, and really do not wish for this standard of brinkspersonship by all those who are supposed to get on with legislating for the good of Scotland.

Some minutes ago, the .............. (insert your phrase/word of choice) voted against the Scottish Government Budget Bill in Parliament, thus precipitating the generation of much hot air amongst those who concern themselves with politics. My initial predictions, for what they are worth, are that at the very least, the hideously childish and dire (im)partial Scottish press will go ever further into overdrive in their non-analysis of this historic vote, leading to more bickering by those who individually and as parties have failed to mature into political beings who actually want to serve the Scottish voters.

From here on in, anything could happen and this could potentially be the precursor of great change in our country, but more likely it will be more of the same. Oor Eck looked much the same as ever, but Nicola looked fair scunnered. Folks nominally in charge of the North British branches of other parties looked as vapid as normal.

*Some sources suggest there is no evidence that it is Chinese, but fail to give alternative origins.

Well, I read the report about it in the Guardian, and it's not as exciting as your blog suggests.

It is indeed more interesting politics with a minority government, but interesting in the usual meaning. Politicians will have to do a bit of negotiating with other people with other views, and a compromise will be reached. That's what they're there to do and that's what politics should be.

All this vote means is that Scotland's parliament is maturing - some real politics going down and the days of the parish council are being left behind.

Having said that, perhaps I've been a little too hasty in my last paragraph, and I should go to my very first sentence. Seems this spat is about loft insulation. A peculiarly British crisis.

Oops Jerzz, your post came through twice so I deleted one copy of it.

Exciting is in the eye of the experiencer I suppose, so you are of course entitled to that opinion.

As ever, the responses online in the mainstream media and that of the political commentariat are mixed depending on which slant is being used to enhance whichever individual or party is favoured by the writer. So it is quite understandable that people will have an affinity with reports that meld best with their own views.

FM's question time today was most entertaining and suggests that much behind the scenes chattering is happening. This may well mean that the Scottish Budget will be represented with more or less tweeking and then be passed.

It is worth watching Holyrood Live for Annabel Goldie's pertinent views. That woman has a fine turn of phrase when she gets going.
